Biological Research at Cincinnati. Hospital Medical Center
I am current a first year medical student at Chicago Medical school in Illinois.Prior to joining medical school last year 2015,I worked for five years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC).Some of my work at CCHMC have been published in three science Journals. While in undergrad I had an opportunity to be involved on and off campus.I was privileged to hold some leadership positions on campus. For instance,I served as an orientation leader, peer leader, peer tutor, campus ambassador and student government official. I also volunteered a lot off campus in clinics and hospitals that serve the unrepressed populations in the US.We live by our core principle in Zawadi of “Each One Teach One”.Apart from mentoring each other in Zawadi,I am blessed to work with a great team of Zawadi sisters. For the past eight year we have not only been able to uplift each other, but also less privileged children in Kenya who are in a position we once were.Through teamwork,we identify the children at young ages of ~7 or so,and see them through primary, secondary and tertiary education.Apart from support,we are continuously mentoring and nurturing them and being great role models to them. Most of our students have gone on to excel in both primary and are attending/attended great secondary schools in Kenya. We hope that through this program we are able to reach out to those in the most need of our support hence giving the less privileged the opportunity to change not only their lives, but those of their families, communities, country and the African continent at large. With regards to my future goals,I intent to contribute significantly to health care in Africa at large.
